Backpacking Tents

Your Backpacking tents need to be lightweight as you will be carrying it all day along the trails. Backpacking tents are generally for one or two people.
The smaller sized tents where you really only have room to sit up are known as bivy tents (bivouac tents).
What to consider when purchasing backpacking tents:
- Tent size – for one or two backpackers plus space required for covering your gear. Some tents include a small vestibule.
- Weight – most of these type of tents weight from 2 to 6 pounds.
- Compact size – really small so that it does not take much room in your backpack
- Ventilation – to keep you cool on hot summer days and to dry the tent quickly in the morning.
- Fabric – is it waterproof, it there an insect mesh, does it include a fly. Is a footprint required?
- Ease of setup – after a long day on the trail you want a quick setup
- Pockets can also be handy for small items such as that flashlight you might need in the middle of the night
