You will always know your location while hiking with the high-sensitivity, WAAS-enabled GPS receiver with HotFix satellite prediction. The Garmin Dakota 20 Waterproof Hiking GPS quickly and precisely locates your position and maintains its GPS location even in heavy forest cover and deep canyons.
Also handy is the barometric altimeter which tracks changes in pressure to pinpoint your precise altitude. You can even use it to plot barometric pressure over time, which can help you keep an eye on then changing weather conditions.
The Garmin Dakota 20 even has a built-in 3-axis electronic compass, which shows your heading when you’re standing still or not holding the GPS level.
You can view these features on the 2.6 inch color touch screen which is sunlight readable. Both durable and waterproof, Dakota 20 is built to withstand the elements with bumps, dust, dirt and water are no match for this rugged navigator.

Here’s what one of the owners had to say about the Garmin Dakota 20 Waterproof Hiking GPS
Rating:

It has a smaller screen than it’s big brother Oregon, and the resolution is not the best. I have mostly no problems with using the touch screen, mostly because of the big buttons. It’s more than good enough to view maps, and everything else that matters, and the colors are good. My unit is very rugged.
It locks quite fast to the satellites, and I use EGNOS (for Europe), not WAAS that Americans use. Also no problems in heavy forest or around “tall” buildings. It says it’s waterproof down to one meter and to test this I put it in a bucket of water for 20 minutes and not a bubble came out of it.
It comes with a basemap, but isn’t that useful for almost anything. Luckily, you can get free and legal maps from the web (often based on OpenStreetMaps, and others, incuding Topo-maps), making it quite good for most people. On the other hand. (E. Holm)
