Hammock Tents

Hammock Tent, Best Hammock Tent, Hammock Shelter, Hammock Tent Reviews

Hammock tents provide a lightweight option when backpacking, bicycle touring and any outdoor activity where weight is an issue. Also some people just simply prefer a hammock and find this method more relaxing.

With most hammock tents the coated tarp keeps you comfortable should you encounter poor weather conditions and sometimes can be used independently as well.  There may be mosquito netting to protect you from insects as well.

It is very important you test out your hammock prior to your first wilderness experience as like any new piece of equipment there is a learning curve in using your tent.

When purchasing a hammock tent you need to consider:

  • Weight capacity - can the maximum capacity hold your weight
  • Hammock weight and size – including any fly and rope you will need to carry it in your backpack
  • Ease of setup – should be able to set up in minutes
  • Coverings – some styles come with a rain fly, others a protective insect mesh screen and with other styles nothing. In this case you will need to find your own coverings
  • Rope – some include rope to attach to the tree and others do not
  • Attachment – there are several types of attachments for hooking around the trees

For a lightweight and comfortable alternative to the traditional bivy shelter why not give the hammock tents a try.
