Ultralight Sleeping Bags
Ultralight sleeping bags are essential when you are required to carry them into the wilderness in your pack. Some people (myself included) have two or more sleeping bags for various seasons of the year.
What to look for when purchasing ultralight sleeping bags:
- Rating – what temperatures is it recommended for. Despite the recommendation some people may find it cold and others will be warm in the same bag. So what is the insulation like
- Size – is it long enough to fit you
- Weight – for ultralight backpacking you will find the sleeping bags weight between 2 and 5 pounds. What is the compression size and does it include a stuff sack
- Zippers – these matter to some hikers and your sleeping bag may have a half zip, full zipper on one side or zippers on both sides
- Style – there are the mummy bags, rectangular shaped sleeping bags in various colors
- Washable – for easy cleaning
- Plus – some sleeping bags offer drawstring hoods, handy in cooler weather. Others offer a vented foot box
